Up next at NC Stage? The slam dunk of a show: King James by Pulitzer Prize nominee Rajiv Joseph!
Meet the starting line up and the rest of the team below:
ONSTAGE are the actors. With over two decades of experience between the pair, this game is shaping to be an incredible battle of friendship and fandom with a side of sportsmania and bro love.

PHILIP KERSHAW*: Starting at Actor #1 (alphabetically determined), hailing from the University of Houston MFA program and in his sixth NC Stage show, is Philip Kershaw! At 6’3″, he’s often known as the tallest person in the building and actually played (too much) basketball growing up in the greater Washington, D.C. area. He’s a versatile performer who enjoys bringing unique and memorable characters to life on stage. It’s been a few presidential terms since he last dunked a real basketball, but he’s confident he could still do it after a vigorous warm up and proper stretching.

KEN SANDBERG*: Your Actor #2 is Minnesota native Ken Sandberg! Standing 6’1″ and weighing in at…a certain number of pounds, Sandberg is far from a rookie in the league, but King James does mark his first performance for an NC Stage audience. His college career included undergrad at Temple University (Go Owls!) and graduate work at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (Go Kangaroos!), and his professional career has brought him all over the country. As for his skills on the basketball court? Suffice it to say, his best moves are on display in this production, so you can be the judge.
OFFSTAGE are the coaching staff and special teams taking us to a bar in Cleveland and setting up the assists to get the actors suited up in their prized Cavs gear, get this show LIT (physically and figuratively), sounding amazing, and coaching this team to victory!
COACH (and Director) Charlie Flynn-McIver: as head coach of NC Stage for over twenty years, and a top-notch player for many more, Flynn-McIver has the experience and know-how to lead this team to another win with King James.
TEAM MANAGEMENT:
Production Stage Manager Lindsey A. Moss*: Moss joined NC Stage several season ago after a stint with the Flat Rock Playhouse Vagabonds. A powerhouse behind the board, she makes the calls to keep gameplay running smoothly.
Assistant Stage Manager Emily Grimes: small but mighty, Grimes is an irreplaceable part of the King James team. With her quick, fast-footed action, she can manage everything from a quick change to a set move with ease.
SPECIAL TEAMS:
Scenic Design: Michael Amico
Costume Design: Madisyn Craig
Lighting Design: CJ Barnwell
Sound Design: Charlie Flynn-McIver
Props Artist: Sylvia J. Pierce
